|09:14 pm - Styrene Armor Tutorial|
Because Glor wanted to see how I made my armor. Here's the first part on how to make armor out of styrene. I'm making Kain from Final Fantasy IV for this tutorial.
First materials. You're going to need
- A sheet of styrene. I use 1/16 of an inch thickness for extra durability but you can definitely go thinner. Thinner is easier to work with.
- Strong scissors
- X-Acto Knife
- A ton of craft foam.
- Heat gun (or another source of heat. A hair dryer would work though it'll take longer)
- Spray paint (more on that later)
- Some form of glue
Scissors, x-acto knife, and an optional x-acto mat that I find helps when cutting.
A roll of craft foam
A roll of styrene
The first step is to trace out the shape of the armor you want on the craft foam and then cut the pieces you want out. Make sure you cut out all the pieces you need, not have one set. The reason for this is these aren't just templates, but will also be attached to the back of your styrene armor for added stability and comfort.
Now take the craft foam armor pieces and trace the shape onto your styrene. A neat trick with styrene is that if you go over the shape with an x-acto knife even though it won't cut through, it makes it so you can snap the pieces right off or pull them apart with a little help from your scissors.
Here's what the pieces should like like when you have them cut out. Still flat.
Time for your heat gun. Make sure you don't overdo it with the heat or it can warp your styrene. Just blast some heat at your styrene armor piece and try bending it, if it doesn't bend well enough apply a little more heat.
See? Your armor pieces after you apply the heat gun. Nicely bent and ready to look beautiful.
Attach the craft foam piece to the back now. Otherwise the armor will be really uncomfortable.
This is basically what each armor piece will look like for now. Do this for all your armor pieces and wait for part two of the tutorial. (Which is basically just attaching things and painting.)

So I have a lot more free time now that it's summer. Does anyone have any book/tv recs? Preferably bromance, I hate romance and vampire things.

So I was bored and decided might as well. It might get you non-comic reading f-list interesting. (Fan-Fan, sorry about not replying, I kept meaning to and then I forgot...)
So without further ado, day 1!

STOLEN FROM kat8cha
1. You make a post announcing your participation and asking your flist for prompts consisting of a fandom, a pairing and a prompt. Feel free to put a cap on how many requests you'll take.
2. Write drabblets, ficlets, novellas, whatever you like in response to the prompts. Not every response has to be full of filth. Some responses are totally PWP; others merely alluded to making humpies. Pr0ntober is also about being sexy, not just sex.
BE SURE TO SPECIFY fandom - pairing - prompt. Fandom is a must, if you can't pick a pairing but have a prompt you want written that's fine, or if you can't pick a prompt but have a pairing you want written THAT IS ALSO fine. But be SURE to put that down!
